Surgical management of a transosseous meningioma with invasion of torcula, superior sagittal sinus, transverse sinus, calvaria, and scalp
BACKGROUND Meningiomas involving both intradural and extradural structures are rare tumors. We report the complete resection of a massive complex transosseous meningioma that had invaded the torcula, superior sagittal sinus, occipital bone, and scalp. CASE DESCRIPTION A 48-year-old male presented after 3 days of worsening headaches and blurry vision. Preoperative imaging demonstrated an 11 × ...
متن کاملDural sinus thrombosis following head injury: report of two cases and review of the literature.
Dural sinus thrombosis (DST) usually involves the sagittal, transverse and sigmoid sinuses and is more common in women due to pregnancy, puerperium and oral contraceptive use. Other etiologies include coagulopathies, infection and head injury. We have present two DST cases following head injury. The first case was a 35-year-old man hospitalized because of one-week history of headache and repeat...
متن کاملCSF hydrodynamics in superior sagittal sinus thrombosis.
Cerebrospinal fluid hydrodynamics were investigated with a constant pressure infusion method in patients with superior sagittal sinus thrombosis. Ten patients were studied with serial examinations up to 15 years after the onset of the disease. A total of 70 CSF hydrodynamic examinations were performed. A clear increase in intracranial pressure due to raised pressure in the major dural sinus was...
متن کاملDural sinus thrombosis after minor head injury in a child.
INTRODUCTION Dural sinus thrombosis following minor head injury is rare. We report such a case in a child after mild head injury. CLINICAL PICTURE A 4-year-old child presented with giddiness and vomiting after a fall. Clinical examination was unremarkable. Magnetic resonance venogram revealed thrombosis of the right sigmoid and transverse sinuses. TREATMENT The patient was managed conservat...
متن کاملOcclusion of the pig superior sagittal sinus, bridging and cortical veins: multistep evolution of sinus-vein thrombosis.
Cerebral sinus-vein thrombosis may lead to severe hemodynamic changes, elevated intracranial pressure (ICP), and brain edema. It is supposed that progression of the thrombus from the sinus into bridging and cortical veins plays a key role in the development of these pathophysiological changes, but this hypothesis lacks experimental proof. The aim of this study, using a novel animal model of sin...
